Expedition Leader, Pat Falvey

World-renowned adventurer, explorer, author, photographer, film producer and motivational trainer/speaker.

Pat has successfully led 62 high adventure expeditions worldwide and is the only person to have completed The Seven Summits challenge twice (to climb the highest peak on each of the Seven Continents) including Mt Everest from both its traditional routes on the North and South sides. His expeditions have led him to the highest, coldest and most remote regions on our planet.

Pat led the 1st Irish unsupported traverse of the Greenland ice cap in August 2007 and took observations of the changes taking place due to climate change. He is recognised as one of the most experienced expedition leaders in the world today.

As well as leading expeditions, his interest in what it is that has challenged man since the evolution of our species has taken him to research and adventure with over 40 different tribes of people throughout the world.

The Beyond Endurance Expedition in the Antarctic is gaining worldwide attention and is set to be one of the most spectacular expeditions that has ever left Ireland. Admin & assistant guide, Lorraine Gordon

Age 20 plus (but not 30!)

Lorraine joined the Expedition Office Team this year to work in the areas of Bookings, Administration and assisting in the co-ordination of Expeditions and trips. She enjoys Hill walking, Climbing, Water sports and is a keen Parachutist, being a member of the Irish Parachute Club. She has a qualification in Personal Fitness Training and experience in the area of Team Building. Having come from a background in Social Care, she enjoys working with people assisting to make their dreams a reality. Lorraine will be the key person and will be in contact with all members throughout the expedition.

Expedition Coordinator/Communications, Niall Foley

Niall has worked with Pat as a freelance Expedition Coordinator and Communications/Multimedia manager for the last five years and has responsibilities from organising expeditions, website management for both patfalvey.com and beyondendurance.ie and also as cameraman when needed. Niall was assistant to Pat supervising the overall trip and second cameraman for the documentary on the 2006 voyage. He will have a busier role in 2008 taking charge of coordinating the SG traverse team and acting as liaison for the science and student team also.

For the 07/08 south pole exped. the base team is a crucial link between the expedition and the outside world. Niall will be using the most up to-date satellite systems which will enable him to plot exactly where the team are on a daily basis and update the web with news directly from the team on Antarctica. He will also organise live links between the media and expedition members and will be the liaison person between sponsors, agencies and the team on expedition. He will also provide content for Tv, Radio and the web.

Niall is also a keen photographer and expedition film cameraman. He has participated in expeditions as cameraman and team leader in Nepal, South Georgia, Norway and Kerry. Niall also produces video/multimedia for DVD and web. Interests include: walking, climbing, swimming, technology, geography, music and film. He can be contacted through our office.

Guide & Outdoor Instructor, Katy O Connor

Katy has a diploma in Science, health and leisure and has worked with Pat part time for the past ten years. She has worked full time for ten years as an outdoor instructor teaching canoeing, kayaking, hillwalking, rock climbing, leave no trace trainer, raft building, team building/corporate, orienteering, campcraft and expedition skills. Her other hobbies include kite boarding and buggying, and also falling a lot while skiing, snowboarding, windsurfing, and sailing.

Team Member, Frederick T. Bear

This adventure bear is an innovative approach to teaching children (and adults) the geography of the world. Through the adventures and discoveries of the bear, as relayed in his journal, e-mails, photographs and video coverage, children can learn about the cultures and traditions of the countries which he visits.

His travels have taken him to many countries around the world, Nepal, Tibet, Peru, Argentina, Chile, America, Antarctica, Canada, Norway and Europe.

He has completed the 7 summits Challenge and many other adventures with his mentors Pat Falvey and Clare O’Leary.

Freddy’s Everest and Beyond Endurance 2006 diaries were written by Clare O’ Leary who will also be keeping Freddy’s blog while on Antarctica. Freddy has also published a book and is presently working on two more. “The Adventures of Freddy T Bear.”
