Ger McDonnell spoke of the community spirit in Kilcornan parish on many occasions. On Sunday the 17th, with over 1,000 people attending to honour him, Kilcornan once again showed exactly what he meant. Ger’s family and Annie his girlfriend showed great strength. JJ who is Ger’s brother reminded people of his honest humour, his passion and conviction but most of all his helping hand to anyone anytime. Pat and Clare also said a few words along with a member of the K2 expedition before Kila and Liam O Maolai played a tune. The community centre was enriched with images of Ger throughout his life, from a smiling schoolboy to Everest summiteer to Bodhran player for a trad band in Anchorage. He was everything: kind, caring, honest, strong, intelligent and loving but most of all great craic for anyone who knew him. Glasses raised to you Ger.
Well done to all who were involved in the memorial. Ger would have been humbled and very proud.
