Neko Harbour
3.30 pm
Two days ago we received a very specific brief about Neko Harbour. It
has a glacier, and on the occasion when ice falls, it creates tsunami
waves. Therefore, it was imperative that we stay above the snow line
when on shore. As we boarded the Zodiacs today, we heard and then saw
a massive ice avalanche occurred just to the west of us, thundering
down into the water, and in turn creating a racing mini tsunami. The
ice crashed into the water, and then a grey cloud of ice crystals and
snow slowly began to spread across the bay. When it finally reached our
boats, we were showered with ice.
