We set off at ten am to meet the traverse team and cross a high mountain
pass from Fortuna Bay to Stromness. At first we climbed up a steep
slope of tussock grass. As we got a little higher, the terrain became
very rocky, full of scree. Behind us the view opening up of the bay was
astounding. Snowy, steep, jagged peaks, with the glacial blue bay
below. We could see all the icebergs and our boat in the distance.
Just then, a British Navy vessel entered the bay, making a nice contrast
to our GORGEOUS ship! It was there that the traverse team caught up
with us. Everyone was so happy to see them and hear their stories.
There was a little impromptu party on the side of the mountain when they
arrived. But shortly they overtook us and we all continued across the
pass.
