We´re here!
Just a quick note to let you know we made it to South Georgia. We´re
currently cruising into a bay, with glaciers and small icebergs on
either side. The sea is teeming with wildlife! Everyone is out on deck
taking photos and trying to absorb so many new sights at once.
Today our traverse team will begin their crossing, and the rest of the
expedition will be there to cheer them on and send them off with good
wishes.
Bach is playing on the bridge as the captain carefully navigates through
the bay and determines our anchor spot. We have been surprised to learn
that the ship only gets to visit South Georgia maybe twice a year. That
is because most clients that hire the ship aren´t familiar with the
island, and are more interested in the the mainland peninsula. As a
result, everyone on board is extremely excited.
There is very little wind, and for now there are low sea clouds.
Will give a full report later,
Pat Falvey
