We are Exhausted, 5 days to go....hopefully

5 days to go, were exhausted….

O’ Leary Family camp. (from Clare)

3rd January day 53, 118km to go 1,029 km of manhauling done.

We are more hopeful now of getting to the POLE. Last night I dreamt of clean underwear having traveled light only brought 2 pair. Also am looking forward to sleeping in a bed on a mattress rather then an insulated mattress only 1 inch thick. My back is in bits from 53 days sleeping on my ice bed. But I’m honoured and proud of our achievement to date. We are getting there and it won’t have been a hollow victory. It’s harder then I’ve experienced in any of my 62 other expeditions. Or maybe I’m going soft, now that I’m in my fifties.

Well that’s it for tonight, I’ll dream on and hopes we’ll have a clear day tomorrow and that there’s no more stings in the tale for us.We have 2 milestones tomorrow roll on, we will be a day closer to the South Pole. It will be day 54 on this amazing landscape. We are now on the polar plateau.

Thank you to my parents, John, Carol and Kevin for all the support and encouragement you have given me down through the years. I hope you know how much it means to me.

A special thank you to my three little nephews, Tim, Luca and John for all the happy thoughts you have given me on this trip!
