I’m home at last. The simple pleasures in life are best.

This is my first day back home since the 28th October 2007. I have been 90 days away and this is my first chance to sleep in my own bed, to have a hot shower in my own bathroom, to sit down by a roaring fire and just enjoy the pleasures of my own home.
I feel like a child at Christmas. For so many days in the hash Antarctic conditions I just dreamt about the simple and little things in life, The importance of my family.

A roller coaster:
Its been a rollercoaster from the start and I have loved every second, minute, hour and day of our Beyond Endurance Expedition. But now its time to wind down for a few days and re-energize the body, souls and spirit to step off the threadmill and take stock of what we have just achieved and to plan our next expedition.

Guinness had an advert about Tom Crean and I can fully identify with its content. While Tom was at home in Annascaul pulling pints, his dreams would be of going back to Antarctic and while on expedition in Antarctic his thoughts were of home.

Now that I’m home, its time to reflect, to smell the roses and to enjoy being here. I have been on a high since we reached the South Pole on the 8th of January and have been floating on a cloud. I have been running on adrenaline even though exhausted from our 58 day trek on the ice. My energy is now running low and I need to relax for a few days, to spend time with family and friends. To go for a walk in the Oak Forest of Tomies woods to climb my favourite mountain Corran Tuathail.

Over the weekend I’m meeting up with some of my friends here in Kerry for a few pints and a meal. Oh it’s really good to be home.
