Ground conditions; soft snow starting to freeze, really hard going still.
Another milestone; We have just crossed to 86 degrees South. Four degrees to go.
Distance today: 22.3km, Clear in the morning and white out in the afternoon.
Distance to Pole: 438km
skied to date 696km
Oh, so this is where we are….
What a surprise when we woke today, the sun was shining. Our spirits rose, for the first time in 8 days we could see around us. The temperature also was colder which would make conditions easier as the soft snow would freeze a little. Just as thing were going our way, the clouds once again started to roll in from the north east. By earlier afternoon we were once again in white out condition and no contrast. Our visibility of our surrounding had disappeared. But for a few hours today we enjoyed of seeing our surrounding. So it was back again, to blind man leads and slowing our progress. We hope tomorrow will bring visibility, it makes such a difference to your enjoyment of the day. So hopefully tomorrow will let us have another glimpse of our icy landscape.
So for tonight we sleep and dream of better days to come.
Camp; Gerry Walsh. A man can be considered lucky to have a friend. I’m very lucky I have a few and one of those is Gerry. Thank you for your friendship, loyalty and all the great times we have had over the years.
To friendship.
