Day 8 - the worst conditions so far

Day 8 - the worst conditions so far

Camp – Tim McCarthy (Irish polar explorer)
Position: S81’10.499, W081’46.467
Distance to pole: 985km
Wind: 35knots
Temp: -32.5c (wc)

A terrible day, more unceasing Katabatic winds blowing at 35knots and temperatures with wind-chill down to -32.5c and they are head winds aswell. We are quite unlucky to have hit a 4 to 5 day katabatic storm off the pole. We pushed through the menacing weather even though we were hoping for an 8 hour day we only completed 6.5 hours and 18kms – not bad considering the conditions.
