Making good progress

Camp name – Joe O’Leary
Date: 13/11/07
Position: S80.20.577, W081.11.944
Temperature: -29 wind-chill
Weather: white out

Complete white out – travelling conditions of -29 Celsius (with wind-chill). We are getting used to life in the freezer, actually that is quit balmy at only -11.

For the 1st week we are acclimatising to the cold and our layering systems. It is imperative to keep the sweat we generate to a minimum as it will freeze inside our clothes when we stop for breaks.

Pulling the sleds is hard work as our muscles are not yet used to the constant effort, most evenings we collapse into our sleeping bags.

Today we reached Camp 3 having only skied for 5 hours, we are currently average 3kph, tomorrow we intent to haul for 7 hours. We can see a large hill in the distance, it looks hard.

I have blisters on my feet and aching back, Shaun’s blistered feet also, Clare and Jonathon have no complaints….as yet!
