Last night we were put on a twelve hour standby for flying. We are happy that all the technical problems with the plane have been solved and that clearance has been given for our flight. We were a bit concerned that our delay could have been a lot longer, we are now only two days behind Schedule. Yesterday, all of the ground base staff flew into Patriot hills and hopefully it will be our turn today. They will man the station for the next three months and will be on standby for rescue and to accommodate a pick up from the South Pole.
I’m a bit nervous at the thought of flying one of the most remote flight journeys on earth. I think I’m more apprehensive of the flight than I am of getting started on the Antarctic.
All the team went out last night for what will be our last good meal for 60 to 70 days. From here on in we will be eating dehydrated food from a bag. So I’m really looking forward, even before I go, to returning to a good steak!
