Monday 24th Nov
Before the expedition, I thought I would be totally penguined out aftera day or two but, to my surprise, Ive fallen in love with penguins of
every description – King, Gentoo,Adelie and my favorite -the Chinstrap.
I could watch them for hours as they waddle along flapping their little
wings – they remind me of my grandson Art recently learning to walk!
Sometimes they fall down on their fronts to skid downhill or wander
around in twos and threes like old women out for a stroll.
Each one is so individual. Yesterday I saw one with his head bent down
his back so that from the front I thought “Omigod! Ive got a shot of a
headless penguin”!
One day I got a brief video of a long line of Adelie penguins moving
purposefully along the beach and massing in hundreds at one point near
the water. They launched themselves into the water splashing along amd
than turned suddenly to scramble out again as if to say “Christ! Its
bloody freezing.” A feeling I agreed with later that day when some of us
went for a quick swim at Neko Harbour. By “quick” read "blink or you
miss it "
Every day brings something new!
