Adventures from 16th Nov
Today we arrived in Fortuna Bay. Again another amazing place, which
area seems to be outdoing the last. It has 2 glaziers, one at the very
top of the bay and the other was on the right. We where told that we
would be spending two nights in the bay which was great because it was
so calm. We had our first landing very early and was up for 6:30am.
Our landing was to the beach in front of the right hand side glazier.
Again there was King Penguins, fur seals and elephant seals. But the
added bonus were the reindeer and the chance to get my feet into some
snow. As we walked through some small rivers and pools in front of the
glazier I discovered that I had a leak on my stylish wellies, so had to
put up with wet sockets but I didnt mind because there was plenty to
keep me occupied.
I managed to make small snow angel and we had a snow ball fight with the
students which was a great laugh.
When back on board I joined the look out for the Traverse Team which
where due to make their appearance at 5:30pm. Was out on deck till
7ish, when I noticed small ant like figures on the top of the glazier.
I was paying so much attention I never noticed my hands getting wind
burn. As the announcement was made all the best viewing spots where
taken up and we watch as the ant like figures started to take on human
form.
Some of the team got their ropes and sledges wrapped up in the students
snow man which didnt go down too well but they did laugh at it later.
After dinner we watched them make camp on the beach well away from the
fur seals.
The night sky was amazing and I was able to see Orions Belt upside down
which gave me a great trill as it was the first constellation I ever
learnt.
